Fitness Fun For Everyone  (health related sports)


As we approach the last nine weeks of school, this unit focuses on teaching the students activities they can do at home with minimal equipment, to keep their bodies healthy.  This weather allows us to get outside and get moving.  My goal is for students to develop an awareness of a healthy and strong body.

KEY LEARNING:  Identify the benefits of a healthy body

UNIT ESSENTIAL QUESTION:  What are the benefits of a healthy body?

Kindergarten:
Essential Questions:
Why is stretching important?
Why are stong muscles important?
How does your body change during a physical activity?
How does your physical activity change your heart rate?

Vocabulary:  cardiovascular, heart rate, moderate

First Grade:
Essential Questions:
How does regular activity strengthen your heart?
What are the benefits of strong muscles?
How do you properly stretch body parts to promote flexibility?
How does the amount of physical activity effect your heart rate?

Vocabulary:  physical activity, somatotypes, benefits, flexibility

Second Grade:
Essential Questions:
How does muscular strength and endurance work together to enhance performance?
How does strength and momentum work together to allow the body to perform movements?

Vocabulary:  momentum, performance, strength, endurance
