Unit 2

     Our next unit will be on Safety.  This unit will focus on identifying what strategies we can use to stay safe in all environments.  We will be playing different games that allow us to understand the importance of knowing what to do in an emergency situation.  Scooter boards, tricycles, big wheels and other fun equipment will be used in this unit.  The skills for each grade level are as follows:

Kindergarten: 
Focus questions:  How can I identify dangerous situations?
How does knowing when to cross the street help keep you safe?
How can I be safe around water?

Vocabulary:  lifeguard, edge (of roadway), emergency, aquatics, shallow, deep, pedestrian

First Grade:
Focus questions:  How does safety impact our health?
How does using a life vest keep you safe if you don't know how to swim?
How do we use first aid to help others with injuries?

Vocabulary:  vehicles, traffic signals, first aid, pedestrian

Second Grade: 
Focus questions:  What strategies can I use to protect myself from danger?
What are the most effective ways to stay safe around water? 
What influence does water have on movement?

Vocabulary:  pedestrian, crosswalk, personal floatation device
